Alaska Airlines has opened its September Atmos Rewards Global Getaways sale with one-way economy awards to six international destinations starting at 20,000 points. The useful part is the pricing. The catch is urgency—and an avoidable discrepancy in Alaska’s own published travel dates.
Atmos Rewards members must book between Sept. 2 and Sept. 5, 2026. Featured destinations include London, Athens, Taipei, Tokyo Haneda, Apia and La Paz. Seats are limited, prices are starting rates rather than guarantees, and taxes and carrier fees can materially change the value.
There is also a conflict readers should understand before transferring, buying or committing points: Alaska’s Sept. 2 announcement says travel for the five non-Tokyo destinations runs from Jan. 15 through March 8, 2027, while the dedicated Global Getaways terms currently list Jan. 5 through Feb. 28, 2027. Tokyo has a separate Sept. 2–Nov. 18, 2026 window. Awardtrail recommends treating the booking engine—not the promotional summary—as the final test of eligibility.
The six advertised awards
Alaska lists the following one-way economy starting prices:
- London: 20,000 Atmos points
- La Paz, Mexico: 20,000 points
- Athens: 25,000 points
- Apia, Samoa: 25,500 points
- Taipei: 30,000 points
- Tokyo Haneda: 20,000 points from Honolulu or 27,500 points from the U.S. West Coast
These are not systemwide fixed prices. Alaska’s terms say the promotional pricing applies to select flights originating or ending in the United States on Alaska, Hawaiian or global partners. The displayed starting prices were available for example itineraries during the preceding 24 hours but might not remain available for every origin, date or routing.
That qualification deserves more attention than the headline number. A 20,000-point London award is compelling only if it appears from an airport and on dates a member can actually use.
Eligibility, dates and fees
Atmos Rewards membership is required. Eligible awards must be booked from Sept. 2 through Sept. 5, 2026, and the sale is limited to economy class.
For London, Taipei, La Paz, Athens and Apia, the dedicated terms page lists travel from Jan. 5 through Feb. 28, 2027. Alaska’s news announcement instead gives Jan. 15 through March 8. Because those windows differ at both ends, members considering early-January or early-March travel should not rely on the broader announcement alone.
Tokyo awards have a clearly separate travel period of Sept. 2 through Nov. 18, 2026.
Taxes and fees vary by itinerary. Alaska- or Hawaiian-operated awards carry taxes and fees starting at $5.60 per person each way. International partner awards can carry more than $100 per person each way in taxes and carrier-imposed charges, plus a $20 nonrefundable partner-award fee per person in each direction.
The terms also permit one stopover of up to 14 days on an eligible international one-way itinerary. A round trip can allow one stopover in each direction, which could improve the value for travelers who can build a more ambitious trip around available routing.
Who benefits
This sale is strongest for existing Atmos Rewards members with flexible dates, a usable balance and the ability to search multiple departure cities. Travelers who find an Alaska- or Hawaiian-operated itinerary near the advertised floor can keep cash surcharges relatively low.
The stopover rule is another genuine advantage. A member who finds compatible routing may be able to visit a second destination without pricing two unrelated awards, although availability and partner rules still govern the actual itinerary.
Tokyo from Honolulu at 20,000 points is particularly interesting for Hawaii-based travelers. London and La Paz at the same starting level could also be strong redemptions when the cash fare and required fees support the comparison.
Who should skip it
Do not transfer or buy points speculatively because a destination appears in the promotion. Starting prices can disappear, transfers into airline programs are generally difficult or impossible to reverse, and the four-day booking window creates pressure that favors mistakes.
Travelers locked into school calendars, exact dates or a single small airport may find little usable inventory. Partner awards with high surcharges also need a careful cash comparison: a low mileage price does not automatically mean a low total cost.
Anyone unable to reconcile the conflicting travel dates in Alaska’s own materials should avoid making nonrefundable positioning or hotel arrangements until the ticket is issued.
Awardtrail analysis
The sale is worth checking, but not celebrating blindly. Alaska has supplied meaningful international redemption floors and a short, clearly stated booking period. At the same time, publishing two different travel windows undermines the precision a limited-time award promotion requires.
Awardtrail’s practical test is simple: search first, record the exact itinerary, confirm the operating carrier and total fees, then compare the same trip against the cash fare. Price both one-way and round-trip options, and inspect alternative origins if a positioning flight is realistic.
Only after the award space is visible should a member move points or buy a top-up. Take a screenshot of the fare and complete the reservation promptly; finding a promotional result does not reserve it.

Why This Matters for Your Strategy
News in the points-and-miles world moves fast, and promotional changes often have a short window. If this announcement affects a card or program you hold, log into your awardtrail dashboard to check your current benefit usage, bonus progress, and whether a transfer or redemption makes sense right now — before terms change.
As a general rule: transfer points only when you have a specific redemption in mind — transfers are almost always one-way and non-reversible. If you're unsure of the value, check our redemption guides before acting.
