Bilt announced a sweeping set of 2027 program changes on October 27, 2026, and the headline cut lands on January 1: Bilt Cash redemptions toward hotel bookings drop from monthly to twice a year. Blue and Silver members go from up to $50 a month to up to $50 per redemption, twice a year. Gold and Platinum members go from up to $100 a month to up to $100 per redemption, twice a year. That is an 83 percent cut in the annual ceiling for both groups, from up to $600 and $1,200 a year to up to $100 and $200 a year.

The same announcement retires the Flexible Bilt Cash option that pays 4% back in Bilt Cash on everyday spend — but only for new cards at first. Anyone who accepts a Bilt Card offer on or after January 1, 2027 gets the refreshed benefits immediately, with no 4% option. Existing cardholders keep their current benefits until their first card account anniversary in 2027, and can opt out in the Bilt app before that anniversary to keep Flexible Bilt Cash. Miss that personal deadline and the refreshed benefits arrive automatically.

Not everything in the announcement is a cut. Bilt Cash now lasts longer: each award expires at the end of the month 12 months after it is earned, replacing the old year-end expiration. And Daily Rewards, a new daily prize program tied to on-time housing payments and neighborhood spending, launches January 15, 2027. The program still has one trap worth naming up front: the hotel-redemption cut applies to every member from January 1, including members without a Bilt Card, while the 4% decision and the opt-out apply only to cardholders.

Exact changes and dates

  • Hotel redemptions with Bilt Cash, from January 1, 2027: up to two redemptions per calendar year through the Bilt Travel Portal, with a two-night minimum stay. Up to $50 per redemption for Blue and Silver members ($100 a year), up to $100 for Gold and Platinum members ($200 a year), and up to $200 for eligible Palladium cardholders on the refreshed benefits ($400 a year). Through December 31, 2026, the limits are up to $50 a month (Blue and Silver) and up to $100 a month (Gold and Platinum).
  • Bilt Cash expiry, effective October 27, 2026: each Bilt Cash award expires at 11:59 p.m. Pacific on the last day of the month 12 months after it is earned. Bilt gives the example of $100 earned in February 2026 expiring on February 28, 2027. The earliest-expiring balance is used first, and Bilt Cash returned after a refund or cancellation keeps its original expiry date — if that date has passed, it is forfeited. There is no longer a year-end deadline or rollover limit.
  • Flexible Bilt Cash (4% back), retired for new cards: offers accepted on or after January 1, 2027 have no Flexible Bilt Cash option. Existing cardholders move to the refreshed benefits on their first card account anniversary in 2027 unless they opt out in card settings in the Bilt app before that anniversary. Bilt defines the anniversary as the first day of the billing cycle following the account open date. The everyday Bilt Points multipliers on the cards do not change.
  • Annual credits move to the card anniversary: annual Bilt Cash credits are now deposited on the card account anniversary instead of January 1. Under the refreshed benefits, Palladium cardholders get one $600 annual Bilt Cash credit, replacing the $200 Bilt Cash credit plus the $400 hotel credit. Obsidian cardholders get a $100 annual Bilt Cash credit, replacing the $100 Bilt Travel Hotel credit. Palladium and Obsidian cardholders still receive a bridge hotel credit on January 1, 2027 — $200 for Palladium, $50 for Obsidian — which expires unredeemed at the anniversary move to the refreshed benefits.
  • Daily Rewards, from January 15, 2027: every on-time monthly rent or mortgage payment earns a Daily Reward, and one qualifying neighborhood activity a day — a meal, a class, or a ride with a qualifying partner — earns another. Each Daily Reward reveals two rewards and the member chooses one, from instant prizes such as Bilt Points and Bilt Cash to collectibles building toward a grand prize, including $1,000,000 toward the purchase of a home, 10,000,000 Bilt Points, free rent or mortgage for a year, and free Lyft rides for a year up to $5,000. Bilt says full prizes and rules will be released before January 15, 2027. Cardholders keep earning Bilt Points on rent and mortgage as today, with Daily Rewards added on top.
  • Elite status extras, in 2027: Gold and Platinum members will be able to redeem Bilt Points at checkout for Home Away from Home hotel bookings, including eligible luxury hotel benefits. Platinum members can unlock status matches to SIXT ONE Platinum and Hertz President's Circle; Gold and Silver members can unlock matches to SIXT ONE Gold and Hertz Five Star. Bilt gives no firm date for these status benefits.
  • Cards affected: Bilt Blue (no annual fee), Bilt Obsidian ($95 annual fee), and Bilt Palladium ($495 annual fee), issued by Column N.A. and serviced by Cardless. The $50 of Bilt Cash earned for every 25,000 Bilt Points toward elite status is unchanged.
  • What this is not: the hotel-redemption change is separate from the previously announced cut to Bilt-to-Hyatt point transfers, which move from 1:1 to 4:3 on January 1, 2027. One changes how Bilt Cash is spent on hotels; the other changes how Bilt Points convert to Hyatt points.

The math: the hotel ceiling falls by more than four-fifths

Do the hotel math first, because it is the largest dollar change and it needs no card at all. A Gold member who used the full monthly allowance in 2026 could apply up to $1,200 of Bilt Cash to hotel stays over the year: $100 a month, twelve times. From January 1, 2027, the same member is capped at two redemptions of up to $100: $200 a year. That is $1,000 less Bilt Cash usable on hotels, an 83 percent cut. A Blue member falls from a $600 annual ceiling to $100, a $500 cut. The per-redemption dollar amounts do not change — only the frequency does — which is exactly why the cut is easy to miss on a quick read of the announcement.

The Palladium exception is narrower than it sounds. The $200-per-redemption, $400-a-year figure applies only to eligible Palladium cardholders on the refreshed benefits: new accounts from January 1, 2027, or existing accounts that reach their 2027 anniversary without making a Legacy Election to keep the old benefits. A Palladium cardholder who opts out to keep Flexible Bilt Cash redeems Bilt Cash for hotels at the amount for their elite status tier instead, and keeps the existing hotel credit structure. Do not count the $200 figure until you know which side of that election you are on.

Now the 4% math. Flexible Bilt Cash pays 4% back in Bilt Cash on eligible everyday spend, on top of the card's Bilt Points earning, which is unchanged. On $1,000 of eligible everyday spend, that is $40 of Bilt Cash; on $1,000 a month, $480 over a year. Under the refreshed Housing-only benefits, that extra Bilt Cash layer is gone and rent and mortgage earning is capped at up to 1.25X points, based on how much everyday spending the cardholder puts on the card in the same billing cycle. The trade is therefore not points versus nothing — it is 4% Bilt Cash on everyday spend versus a simpler housing-points structure and, for Palladium and Obsidian, annual Bilt Cash credits that can be spent more flexibly than a hotel-only credit. For a cardholder who spends heavily on everyday purchases and little on rent through Bilt, the 4% layer is worth far more than the new credits. For a cardholder whose spending is mostly rent, the housing multiplier matters more.

The expiry change is a genuine improvement, and it is already in effect. Under the old year-end rule, Bilt Cash earned early in the year faced a December 31 deadline. Under the rolling rule, $100 earned in February 2026 now runs to February 28, 2027. The catch is in the fine print: returned Bilt Cash keeps its original expiry date, so a cancelled hotel booking or refunded redemption close to expiry can still lose the balance. Check the expiry dates in the Bilt app before assuming a refund restores the balance.

Who benefits—and who should skip it

Existing cardholders who earn the 4% should act. If Flexible Bilt Cash is how you earn, open card settings in the Bilt app before your first card account anniversary in 2027 and opt out of the refreshed benefits. That is the only way to keep the 4% earning and the existing annual credits. Note that upgrading or downgrading your Bilt Card moves you to the refreshed benefits even if you opted out on your current card, so do not change products casually while trying to preserve the old terms.

Members who use Bilt Cash for hotels every month should use the 2026 allowance while it lasts. The monthly limits run through December 31, 2026. From January 1, the same balance can only be applied to two hotel bookings a year, each with a two-night minimum. A member sitting on a large Bilt Cash balance with no hotel stay planned should not assume the balance becomes more useful in 2027 — it becomes harder to spend on hotels, even though it lasts longer before expiring.

Palladium and Obsidian cardholders should price the credit swap, not just the headline. Palladium's $600 of annual Bilt Cash sounds larger than $200 of Bilt Cash plus a $400 hotel credit, and in flexibility it is: Bilt Cash can be used across redemptions, not only hotels. But the $600 arrives on the card anniversary, the January 1 bridge hotel credit expires unredeemed at that anniversary, and the $200 hotel-redemption figure depends on not opting out. Obsidian's swap is simpler — $100 of Bilt Cash instead of a $100 hotel credit — and is a clear flexibility gain for anyone who struggled to use a hotel-only credit twice a year.

New applicants after January 1, 2027, and members without a card should skip the 4% debate entirely. There is no opt-out to make and no 4% to preserve; the refreshed benefits are the only terms on offer. What matters for this group is the hotel-redemption cap, which applies to every member, and Daily Rewards from January 15, which Bilt presents as the way housing payments paid by bank account, debit card, or credit card are rewarded. Treat Daily Rewards as a lottery ticket on top of normal earning until Bilt publishes the full rules — a chance at $1,000,000 toward a home is not a reason to change how you pay rent.

Awardtrail analysis

Bilt framed this announcement as an extension and a simplification, and the expiry change is both. But the two changes that move real money — hotel redemptions cut from monthly to twice a year, and 4% Bilt Cash retired for new cards — both point the same way: Bilt Cash is becoming a slower, smaller hotel currency, and the most lucrative earning mode is being fenced off to existing cardholders who take action. The opt-out is the whole story for current cardholders. Bilt set no single deadline; each cardholder's deadline is their own first anniversary in 2027, which makes this easy to miss.

Before your anniversary, do three things. First, confirm in the Bilt app whether your rewards option is Flexible Bilt Cash and whether you have opted out — do not assume a setting from when the card opened. Second, look at your Bilt Cash balance and its new expiry dates, and use any monthly hotel redemption still available in 2026 for a stay you have already priced, with the two-night minimum in mind. Third, if you hold Palladium or Obsidian, write down what happens to the January 1 bridge hotel credit at your anniversary so an unredeemed credit does not quietly expire. New applicants should apply on the refreshed terms with eyes open: the cards keep their points earning, but the 4% Bilt Cash era ends on December 31, 2026, for everyone who has not already locked it in.
