Starting today, October 15, 2026, World of Hyatt members can move points between accounts directly on Hyatt.com — free, instantly initiated, with no forms, no faxes, and no waiting on a back-office queue. Hyatt promised the digital transfer tool earlier this year when it overhauled its award pricing, and it is finally live.
The old process was one of the loyalty world's most dated: download a PDF, fill it out by hand, email or mail it to Hyatt, and wait. For families trying to combine points for a single award stay — or anyone trying to gift points to a friend — that friction killed more redemptions than it enabled. The new flow needs only the recipient's name, email, and World of Hyatt number, and points generally land within 24 hours.
There is one hard ceiling that matters: each member is capped at 525,000 points moved per calendar year, and at six free transfers a year. For most households booking a vacation together, that is generous. For anyone sitting on a seven-figure stash they planned to funnel through one account, it is a wall.
Exact terms and eligibility
- Free member-to-member transfers at a 1:1 ratio, initiated on Hyatt.com. Minimum 1,000 points per transfer, in 500-point increments.
- Both the sending and receiving accounts must have been open for at least 60 days and be in good standing.
- Maximum 525,000 points per transaction; each member may send and receive up to 525,000 points per calendar year.
- Limited to six free transfers per member per calendar year.
- The sender must provide the recipient's first name, last name, email address, and World of Hyatt number.
- Points generally arrive within 24 hours (often near-instant); some transfers flagged for review can take up to 10 business days.
- Replaces the old point-combining form, which restricted members to one combining transaction every 30 days.
The math: 525,000 points is a lot — until it is not
At the common ~1.7-cents-per-point valuation of World of Hyatt points, the annual cap represents roughly $8,900 in points value. That is more than enough for the ordinary use case: a family pooling points from three or four accounts to cover a week at a mid-tier property, or one generous gift to a friend.
Where the ceiling bites is consolidation at scale. Six transfers a year means a household with points scattered across five family accounts cannot reorganize everything in one sitting — you get one move per person roughly every two months. And 525,000 points per person per year means a couple sitting on two million Ultimate Rewards points they had been funneling through one member's account cannot move the whole pile. They never could through the old form either, but the new tool makes the limit feel real because everything else is frictionless.
The timing makes pooling more valuable than it was a month ago. Chase cut longtime Sapphire Preferred holders' Hyatt transfer ratio from 1:1 to 4:3 on October 1, so every Hyatt point sitting in a member account is now harder to replace than it was. Bilt's Hyatt transfers drop from 1:1 to 4:3 on January 1, 2027. Points you can move freely today are points you can actually use; stranded balances in inactive accounts were always a Hyatt weakness, and the digital tool closes that gap — as long as the account is at least 60 days old.
One more number worth noting: top-tier Hyatt properties run roughly 35,000 to 40,000 points a night at standard and peak pricing. Six nights in one account is roughly 240,000 points — well inside the cap. The 525,000 limit only becomes a problem when you are moving points for the sake of moving them, not for a specific booking.
Who benefits — and who should skip it
Families booking award stays together are the obvious winners. If points are split across your account, your partner's, and a parent's, consolidating them into the account making the reservation is now a same-day task instead of a paperwork project.
Points gifters win too. Sending 30,000 points to a friend who is short for a booking is exactly the kind of transaction the old form made too annoying to bother with.
Household maximizers who stockpile flexible points in one member's account should pay attention to the cap. If you were counting on pooling a huge stash through a single spouse's account after the Chase 4:3 cut, run the numbers first: 525,000 points and six transfers a year is the whole budget.
New members get no help here — accounts under 60 days old cannot send or receive at all. If you just opened an account for a family member, the 60-day clock is already the reason to start early.
Awardtrail analysis
This is a genuine improvement, not a stealth cut dressed up as one — Hyatt's rare good headline in a year that has otherwise tested its members' patience. But the right move is administrative, not tactical: if there is any chance you will need to move points between family members in the next year, make sure every account involved is open and past its 60-day minimum now, not the week of the trip. Consolidate before you need to, keep each member under the 525,000 and six-transfer limits, and treat the cap as a planning constraint rather than a surprise. The tool is free and fast; the only people it fails are the ones who discover the ceiling mid-booking.

Why This Matters for Your Strategy
News in the points-and-miles world moves fast, and promotional changes often have a short window.
