American Express has raised the welcome offers on its two no-annual-fee business cards, and the points version of the deal is the biggest this card has ever carried. The Blue Business Plus Credit Card now offers as high as 50,000 Membership Rewards points after $5,000 in purchases in the first three months of card membership. Its sibling, the Blue Business Cash Card, offers as high as a $500 statement credit on the same $5,000-in-three-months spend requirement.

For context, the previous public Blue Business Plus offer was 15,000 points after $3,000 in spending. The new offer is more than three times the points — on a card that costs nothing to hold and pays 2x on the first $50,000 you spend every calendar year. At a common 1.7-cents-per-point valuation, 50,000 points are worth about $850 before you count a single point of regular earning.

The catch is in the fine print Amex attaches to both offers: "as high as" and "welcome offers vary and you may not be eligible for an offer." You have to start an application to see what you qualify for, there is no published end date, and Amex's once-per-lifetime rule means this is almost certainly the best bonus you will ever see on this card.

Exact offer and eligibility

  • Blue Business Plus: as high as 50,000 Membership Rewards points after $5,000 in purchases in the first 3 months of card membership.
  • Blue Business Cash: as high as a $500 statement credit after $5,000 in purchases in the first 3 months of card membership.
  • Annual fee: $0 on both cards, with no extra cost to add employee cards.
  • Offer varies by applicant: Amex states that offers vary and some applicants may not be eligible for any offer. Apply to find out your welcome offer. No end date is published, so the elevated offers can be pulled at any time.
  • Once-per-lifetime rule: if you have ever had the card you are applying for, you may not qualify for its welcome offer. Amex will tell you whether you are eligible with a pop-up before you submit the application.
  • Earning rate: 2x Membership Rewards points (Plus) or 2% cash back (Cash) on the first $50,000 in purchases per calendar year, then 1x/1% after that.
  • Intro APR: 0% on purchases for 12 months from account opening, then a variable 16.99% to 28.74%.
  • Foreign transaction fee: 2.7% on both cards — do not use them for purchases abroad or with overseas suppliers.
  • Expanded Buying Power: both cards let you spend above your credit limit for occasional large expenses, based on usage, payment history, and other factors — not unlimited.
  • Separate eligibility: the two cards are considered independently, so earning a bonus on one does not block the bonus on the other.

Do the math: the real value, and the fine print behind the headline

The headline number holds up, and then some. At 1.7 cents per point, 50,000 points equal roughly $850. Add the 2x earning on the required $5,000 of spending — another 10,000 points, about $170 — and you are at roughly $1,020 in value on $5,000 of organic business spend, a first-year return of about 20% on a card with no annual fee. The previous 15,000-point offer was worth about $255 by the same math, so this really is more than triple.

The cash card's math is more mixed. The $500 credit is exactly double the old $250, but the spend requirement rose 67% (from $3,000 to $5,000). You get $500 plus $100 in 2% base earnings for $600 total, or 12% back — good, but a worse return per dollar of spend than the old offer. Cash is simple and guaranteed, but points win here: 50,000 points at 1.7 cents each are worth $850, nearly double the $500 statement credit.

The central limitation is that the number on your application may not be 50,000. Targeted Amex offers like this one vary by applicant, and "you may not be eligible for an offer" is explicit. Do not count the 50,000 until you see it on your own screen — and do not close out of the application flow to think about it, because Amex notes the application process may not be available if you leave the page and return later.

The real reason to keep this card long after the bonus posts is the 2x flat earning. With no annual fee, no bonus categories to track, and points that never expire, the Blue Business Plus is a Membership Rewards banking card: a cheap place to stockpile transferable points that move 1:1 to 19 airline and hotel partners. The only things it cannot do are international spend (the 2.7% foreign fee kills that) and big-ticket categories, which belong on a Business Gold or Platinum instead.

Who benefits—and who should skip it

Apply now if: you have never held the Blue Business Plus and can put $5,000 of real business or freelance spending on a card in three months. This is very likely the best bonus this card will ever carry, and the 2x-on-everything structure makes it a permanent member of a two-card Amex setup — earn on the Blue Business Plus, transfer through a card like the Business Gold or Platinum.

Take the Cash version if: you want zero thinking about redemptions. The $500 statement credit lowers your bill automatically, and 2% back with no fee beats most flat-rate business cards. Just know you are leaving roughly $350 of value on the table versus the points version.

Skip it if: you have already earned a Blue Business Plus bonus — Amex's once-per-lifetime rule almost certainly excludes you. Skip it too if your spending is mostly in foreign currencies or in categories where a premium card earns 3x or more, or if you cannot reach $5,000 without manufacturing spend.

Awardtrail analysis

This is a genuine high-water mark for one of the best boring cards in the business. A no-annual-fee card offering up to $850 in transferable points for $5,000 of everyday spending is rare, and the 2x-everything earning gives it a decade-long afterlife the moment the bonus posts. The targeted nature of the offer is the real story: start the application, confirm your personal offer, and if you see 50,000, take it before the unpublished end date arrives. If Amex's once-per-lifetime rule applies to you, this is the one that got away — and it will not come back in this form.
