Late September is one of those windows where everything expires at once. Transfer bonuses are falling off the calendar through the end of October, two of the year's strongest hotel card offers end September 30, and the loyalty landscape keeps shifting underneath everyone — from Alaska's new Atmos Rewards to Citi quietly tightening bonus rules. Here's the rundown of what matters and what to do before the deadlines hit.

Transfer Bonuses With Deadlines Attached

The standout is Chase's 70% transfer bonus to Marriott Bonvoy, running through October 15. That's 1,000 Ultimate Rewards points becoming 1,700 Marriott points — unusually rich for a bonus that normally lands in the 30-50% range. The math only works if you have a Marriott redemption in mind (at roughly 0.7 cents per Bonvoy point, 100,000 UR converts to about $1,190 in Marriott value), so don't move points speculatively. But if you're sitting on a hotel stay this fall, this is the moment.

Two new Citi bonuses are also live through October 24: 25% to Avianca LifeMiles and 30% to Japan Airlines Mileage Bank. These pair nicely with the biggest Citi story of 2026 — ThankYou points now transfer 1:1 to American AAdvantage, a door that was closed for years. Between the new bonuses and the AA pipeline, Citi's currency has quietly become one of the most interesting in the game.

The rest of the calendar is tight:

  • Amex to British Airways, Iberia, and Aer Lingus Avios: 30% — ends September 27
  • Capital One to Japan Airlines: 30% — ends September 30
  • Chase to Air Canada Aeroplan: 20% — ends September 30
  • Rove to Copa ConnectMiles: 40% — ends September 30
  • Amex to Hilton Honors: 30% — ends October 14

Citi's 25% bonus to Leading Hotels of the World already expired on September 19 — gone.

Elevated Welcome Offers Worth a Look

On the personal card side, the Chase Sapphire Reserve is at 100,000 points after $6,000 in three months with its $795 annual fee — down from the 125,000-point offer earlier this year, but still the heavyweight Ultimate Rewards play. The Sapphire Preferred holds at 75,000 points after $5,000 in three months for $95. Capital One's Venture is 75,000 miles plus a $300 first-year travel credit after $4,000 in three months, also $95. Amex's Platinum and Gold advertise "as high as" 175,000 and 100,000 points respectively, but those are personalized — check your own offer before doing the math, and remember Amex's once-per-lifetime rules.

The business card numbers run bigger, as always: Sapphire Reserve for Business at 200,000 points after $30,000 in six months, Capital One Venture X Business at 150,000 miles after $30,000 in three months, and Ink Business Preferred at 100,000 points after $8,000 in three months.

Hotel cards are where the real limited-time pressure is. The Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant's elevated offer — 150,000 points plus a $250 statement credit after $6,000 in six months — ends September 30. The Hilton Honors Aspire's 200,000 points plus a first-year free night runs through January 13, 2027, which gives you breathing room. If either was on your list, the Brilliant's deadline is days away.

What Changed in 2026 (and What's Tightening)

Alaska and Hawaiian officially merged their loyalty programs into Atmos Rewards on August 20, combining miles 1:1 with no devaluation — a rarity in this industry. The new Atmos Rewards Summit Visa Infinite offers 70,000 points plus a 25,000-point companion award after $3,000 in 90 days. Meanwhile Citi launched the Strata Elite ($595), replacing the long-dead Prestige, with American Airlines transfers included.

The tightening side: Citi reportedly switched Strata-family bonuses to once-per-lifetime language on September 20 (enforcement is still unclear), Capital One now blocks Venture X bonuses if you've earned any Venture-family bonus in the last 48 months, Amex dropped Etihad Guest as a transfer partner in June, and United's April overhaul cut base earning to 3 miles per dollar for non-cardholders while zeroing out basic economy earning entirely. The through-line: the card in your wallet matters more than ever for how you earn.

Valuations Snapshot

For a quick sense of what your points are worth:

  • Bilt Rewards: 2.2 cents per point
  • Chase Ultimate Rewards: 2.05 cents
  • Amex Membership Rewards: 2.0 cents
  • Citi ThankYou: 1.9 cents
  • Capital One miles: 1.85 cents
  • Alaska Atmos Rewards: 1.55 cents (top airline currency)
  • World of Hyatt: 1.65 cents (top hotel currency)

So What?

The move this week is simple: audit your transfer bonuses against trips you already have planned — the Avios and JAL windows close first — and decide on the Bonvoy Brilliant before September 30 if it was on your list. Everything else can wait. Those two can't.
