Citi ThankYou is offering a 10% bonus on points transferred to Cathay Pacific Asia Miles, starting October 25 and running through November 14, 2026. It is the first Citi bonus on this route since July 2024, and it arrives at a useful moment: Cathay's own program is increasingly the only reliable way into its premium cabins.

The bonus itself is small, and the headline rate hides a split. Premium Citi cardholders get the full 10% on top of a 1:1 base rate. No-fee cardholders get 10% on top of a 0.7 base rate — so the same 1,000 points produce 1,100 miles for one group and only 770 for the other. That gap, not the 10%, is the story of this offer.

Exact offer and eligibility

  • Bonus: 10% extra Asia Miles on Citi ThankYou points transferred to Cathay Pacific Asia Miles.
  • Window: transfers completed between 12:01 a.m. ET on October 25, 2026 and 11:59 p.m. ET on November 14, 2026.
  • Premium cards (1,000 points become 1,100 miles): Citi Strata Elite, Citi Strata Premier, Citi Prestige, and AT&T Access More.
  • No-fee cards (1,000 points become 770 miles): Citi ThankYou Preferred, Citi Strata, Citi Double Cash, Citi Custom Cash, Citi ThankYou Mastercard, and AT&T Universal and Access card variants.
  • Minimum transfer: 1,000 points, in 1,000-point increments.
  • Transfer speed: transfers to Cathay typically process instantly, but the bonus applies to transfers completed inside the window — do not leave a transfer to the final evening.
  • One-way: once points leave Citi they cannot come back, so only move points against a priced award you have already found.
  • Expiry: Asia Miles stay active as long as you earn or redeem at least once every 18 months, per Cathay's official activity rules.

The math, card by card

Run the numbers separately, because the two tiers are different offers wearing one headline. On a premium card, an award priced at 110,000 Asia Miles costs exactly 100,000 ThankYou points with the bonus, versus 110,000 points without it — a clean saving of 10,000 points. On a no-fee card, that same 110,000-mile award needs 143,000 points (110,000 divided by 0.77, rounded up to the 1,000-point increment), which is 43,000 points more than the premium cardholder pays for the identical seat.

Put another way: 100,000 points moved during the window become 110,000 miles on a premium card and 77,000 miles on a no-fee card — a 33,000-mile gap from the same starting balance. The bonus improves both tiers by 10% over their own base rates, but it does nothing to close the underlying 30% haircut that no-fee cards carry on every Citi transfer.

The comparison that makes this bonus worth noting is American Express. Amex Membership Rewards now transfers to Asia Miles at 5:4, so 1,000 Amex points become only 800 Asia Miles. Citi's premium rate of 1,100 miles per 1,000 points beats that by a wide margin — and it is a limited window, not a permanent rate.

That context cuts both ways. A 10% bonus does not rescue a mediocre redemption, and it is no reason to move points speculatively. Asia Miles are a single-program currency once transferred, and the bonus miles are worth nothing if the award you wanted is not there. The bonus only pays when it reduces the points cost of a booking you were going to make anyway.

Who benefits—and who should skip it

Move points if: you hold a premium Citi card, you have found Cathay premium-cabin award space (or a partner award priced through Asia Miles) for specific dates, and the bonus drops the cost below what you would pay from another currency. This is also the right moment for anyone sitting on a Cathay booking plan who was going to transfer at 1:1 anyway — the extra 10% is free.

Skip it if: you hold only a no-fee Citi card and are moving a large balance — 770 miles per 1,000 points is still below par, and you should price the same trip through every other currency you hold before accepting that rate. Skip it too if you have no award in mind: 10% is a modest bonus, Asia Miles transferred on a guess tend to sit, and the 18-month activity clock starts ticking the moment they land.

Awardtrail analysis

This is a top-off bonus, not a transfer event. The right move is narrow: search Cathay's own award availability first, confirm the exact mileage price, then transfer the precise number of points the booking needs — rounded up to the next 1,000 — and complete the transfer well before November 14. Premium cardholders get a genuinely good rate for three weeks; no-fee cardholders get a discount on a discounted rate and should treat it as such. If the award is not priced and available before you transfer, keep the points at Citi, where they stay flexible. A 10% bonus on miles you never redeem is a 100% loss of flexibility.

Why This Matters for Your Strategy

News in the points-and-miles world moves fast, and promotional changes often have a short window. If this announcement affects a card or program you hold, log into your awardtrail dashboard to check your current benefit usage, bonus progress, and whether a transfer or redemption makes sense right now — before terms change.

As a general rule: transfer points only when you have a specific redemption in mind — transfers are almost always one-way and non-reversible. If you're unsure of the value, check our redemption guides before acting.
