Qatar Airways Privilege Club has launched a flash sale offering up to a 60% bonus on purchased Avios, cutting the price to 1.44 US cents per Avios at the top tier — the cheapest buy rate the program has offered this year. The sale ends Monday, October 19 at 11:59 p.m. Doha time (4:59 p.m. ET).
The catch is that 1.44 cents is the top rung of a steep ladder, not a flat rate. Buy 1,000 to 4,000 Avios and you earn no bonus at all — full price at 2.8 cents each. The full 60% bonus only kicks in at the top tier, which costs at least 32,000 Avios pre-bonus (about $736 for 51,200 Avios) on the account structure most widely reported this weekend. Some members report their account unlocks the 60% tier only at 42,000 Avios. The offer is targeted: log in to see your own tiers before doing any math.
For context, this beats every Qatar buy-miles sale of 2026 so far — the previous best was a 50% bonus that worked out to 1.53 cents per Avios — but it is not the all-time best: a December 2025 sale hit 65%. And Qatar has a history of unannounced devaluations, so miles bought speculatively can lose value overnight. The only defensible play is buying against award availability you have already confirmed.
Exact offer and eligibility
- Bonus: up to 60% on Avios purchases, ends Monday, October 19, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. GMT+3 (4:59 p.m. ET).
- Reported tiers (one common account version): 1,000–4,000 Avios: 0% bonus (2.8 cents each); 5,000: 30% (2.15 cents); 6,000–10,000: 30% (1.92 cents); 11,000–15,000: 30% (1.85 cents); 16,000–30,000: 50% (1.60 cents); 32,000–250,000: 60% (1.44 cents). Other accounts reportedly unlock the 60% tier at 42,000 Avios — check your own account.
- Annual cap: members can buy, gift, or transfer up to 250,000 Avios per calendar year (pre-bonus). At the full 60% bonus that becomes 400,000 Avios for $5,750.
- Eligibility: targeted — log in to confirm your structure. You must have earned at least 1 Avios since enrollment to purchase (a credit card transfer counts).
- Purchase increments: 1,000 Avios up to 26,000; 2,000 Avios from 28,000 to 100,000; 5,000 Avios from 105,000 to 250,000.
- Fulfillment: purchases are nonrefundable and post within 72 hours. Purchased Avios do not count toward elite status.
- Payment: processed by Points.com in USD — it will not code as airline spend, so use a card with strong everyday earning.
- Expiry: Qatar Avios do not expire as long as you earn or redeem at least 1 Avios every 36 months.
The math: the headline rate costs at least 736 dollars
Do the buy-in arithmetic first. At the commonly reported tier structure, the cheapest entry to the 1.44-cent rate is 32,000 base Avios, which becomes 51,200 Avios after the 60% bonus for about $736. The ceiling is 250,000 base Avios — 400,000 Avios for $5,750. Small purchases are a terrible deal by comparison: 5,000 Avios becomes 6,500 for about $140 (2.15 cents each, nearly 50% above the top-tier price), and 1,000–4,000 Avios carry no bonus at all.
Now the redemption side. A one-way business-class award priced at 95,000 Avios — Qatar's published off-peak figure for its long-haul business awards to the USA — costs about $1,368 in purchased miles at 1.44 cents. That is before Qatar's per-segment award booking fee, which was hiked without notice in September 2024 and is reported at up to $250 per segment in business class on long-haul itineraries, plus taxes. A round trip at 190,000 Avios runs about $2,736 in miles plus fees. The math can still beat cash Qsuite fares comfortably — but the fees mean you should price the full out-of-pocket cost before buying.
Also compare before you click. If you hold Citi ThankYou points, Citi's tiered transfer bonus to Qatar runs through October 31 — up to 35% on a single 100,000-point transfer (15% under 50,000; 25% from 50,000 to 99,999) — which generates Avios for free and beats this sale on price. If you earned Avios in the last 30 days, British Airways Balance Boost can drop the cost as low as 1.20 US cents per Avios. And Avios move 1:1 instantly between Qatar, British Airways, Finnair, Iberia, and Aer Lingus via the British Airways hub, so bought Avios can be spent across the whole oneworld sweet-spot map.
Finally, remember this sale is a pricing event, not a rare event. December 2025's 65% bonus was better, and the program runs these promotions regularly. A cheaper sale arriving after you have already stocked up at 1.44 cents is a loss you could have avoided.
Who benefits—and who should skip it
Buy only if: you have already found Qatar or oneworld award availability you intend to book, you are short on Avios, your account shows the 60% tier, and the purchased-miles cost — plus booking fees and taxes — beats the cash fare on that exact itinerary. Miles post within 72 hours, so the seat must still be there when they land.
Skip if: you would only be buying 1,000–4,000 Avios (no bonus at all); you have no award availability confirmed — Qatar's unannounced devaluations make speculative buys a gamble; you hold Citi ThankYou points, where the transfer bonus through October 31 is the cheaper path; you earned Avios recently and can use BA Balance Boost; or your account shows a weaker targeted tier than the one reported — run your own tier's math, not the headline's.
Awardtrail analysis
This is a genuine flash sale and 2026's cheapest published Avios price, but the 60% headline is doing a lot of work: it is targeted, tier-dependent, and requires a minimum outlay of roughly $736 — more on some accounts. If your account shows the full bonus and you have a Qsuite redemption priced out and available, buy exactly what you need before 4:59 p.m. ET Monday; do not top up beyond the award in front of you. For everyone else — especially Citi points holders and anyone without confirmed availability — the right move is to skip this sale, transfer instead of buying, or wait for the next one. Check your own account's tiers first, confirm the seat, then buy.

Why This Matters for Your Strategy
News in the points-and-miles world moves fast, and promotional changes often have a short window.
