Scandinavian Airlines has reopened its paid status match on October 14, 2026, and this round is the widest yet: elites in 84 airline programs outside SkyTeam can buy their way into EuroBonus Silver, Gold, or Diamond with no flights and no challenge required. Pay €199 and EuroBonus Gold lands in your account — along with SkyTeam Elite Plus status across all 18 SkyTeam airlines, including Delta, Air France, KLM, and Virgin Atlantic. Status is valid for the rest of your EuroBonus qualification year plus 12 more months, which means up to 24 months if you apply on a brand-new account.
The catch is in the tier structure. EuroBonus Diamond costs €349 — a full €150 more than Gold — yet carries the exact same SkyTeam-wide benefits as Gold. Both tiers map to SkyTeam Elite Plus; Diamond's extras are all SAS-specific perks (30% off SAS award trips, points that never expire, free same-day changes) that most US-based travelers will never touch. Pay for Diamond only if you are a regular SAS flyer; for everyone else, Gold is the entire deal.
There is no published end date — the offer closes once the quota is filled — so anyone with qualifying status and international SkyTeam flying ahead should decide soon. The fee is charged only if your application is approved, which makes the application itself essentially risk-free.
Exact offer and eligibility
- Fees: €89 for EuroBonus Silver (SkyTeam Elite), €199 for EuroBonus Gold (SkyTeam Elite Plus), €349 for EuroBonus Diamond (SkyTeam Elite Plus). Residents of Poland and India pay €39/€79/€159; residency is verified during the application.
- Who can apply: elites in 84+ non-SkyTeam airline programs, including American AAdvantage, United MileagePlus, British Airways Club, Emirates Skywards, Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles, Lufthansa Miles&More, Finnair Plus, Qatar Privilege Club, Aegean Miles+Bonus, Iberia Club, easyJet Plus, Vueling Club, and Ryanair Rewards. Not eligible: SkyTeam programs, Singapore Airlines, TAP Air Portugal, and Etihad; residents of China, Brazil, and Argentina cannot apply.
- Tier mapping: United Premier Gold, American Platinum, British Airways Silver, and easyJet Plus match to EuroBonus Gold. United Premier Platinum/Premier 1K/Global Services, American Platinum Pro/Executive Platinum/ConciergeKey, and British Airways Gold/Gold Guest List/Premier match to Diamond — but if you qualify for Diamond, you can choose Gold instead and pay the lower fee. One tier down (e.g., United Premier Silver, American Gold, British Airways Bronze) matches to Silver.
- No flight challenge: unlike most status matches, there is no flying requirement. Approval takes about 3 business days, and the status is credited within 10 business days. Payment is by credit or debit card only; you may be asked for a photo of your status card and, in some cases, a passport or driver's license for identity verification.
- The fee is only charged if you are approved. Rejected applications are notified by email and nothing is billed.
- No extensions: the match cannot extend a tier you already hold, whether you earned it by flying or through a previous match. If you matched earlier this year, you can only participate again if that status has expired or you are applying for a higher tier. There is no once-per-account rule this time.
- Validity: the remainder of your current EuroBonus qualification year plus 12 additional months — roughly 24 months on a new account, closer to 12+ months on an older one. EuroBonus qualification periods are individual, not calendar-based.
- Exclusions: matched status does not count toward lifetime Gold or Diamond, and the status-gifting benefit is not available to matched members. If you fail to requalify after the matched period (Gold normally requires 45,000 base points or 45 SAS flights per year), you drop down.
- No published end date: SAS and statusmatch.com state the offer is limited and closes once the quota is filled — so there is no deadline to plan around and no guarantee it survives the week.
The math: Diamond is a €150 upsell with zero extra alliance perks
Say the point plainly: on every SkyTeam flight that is not operated by SAS, EuroBonus Gold and EuroBonus Diamond are identical. Both deliver SkyTeam Elite Plus — lounge access on international itineraries plus one guest, an extra checked bag, priority check-in, boarding, security, and preferred or free seat selection — on Delta, Air France, KLM, Virgin Atlantic, Korean Air, and the rest of the alliance. The €150 jump from Gold (€199) to Diamond (€349) buys literally nothing extra in the alliance.
What does Diamond add? Only SAS-specific extras: 30% off SAS award trips, EuroBonus points that never expire, free same-day flight changes, free drinks in SAS Economy, and a 75% bonus on award miles instead of 50%. For a traveler based in the US who might ride SAS once on a Copenhagen connection, that package is worth approximately nothing. The only travelers who should consider Diamond are people who fly SAS routes regularly enough to harvest those SAS-only perks — and even they should price them honestly against €150.
The comparison that matters is against earning status the hard way. EuroBonus Gold normally requires 45,000 base points or 45 SAS flights within a year. At €199 — roughly the cost of a single airline club membership — you are buying up to two years of alliance-wide lounge access without stepping on a single SAS aircraft. Three international trips with a guest would cost more than €199 in lounge day passes; four or five checked bags covered by the extra allowance erase the rest. This is one of the cheapest legal paths to SkyTeam Elite Plus on the market right now.
Who benefits—and who should skip it
Should grab it: oneworld and Star Alliance elites who also fly SkyTeam — the American Platinum member who rides Delta domestically, the United Premier Gold member with Air France legs, the British Airways Silver member who flies Virgin Atlantic. If you have even a handful of international SkyTeam flights in the next 12–24 months, €199 for Gold pays for itself quickly. It also works as a hedge: travelers whose airline status is in flux can park two years of lounge access and priority handling with the rival alliance while they sort out their primary loyalty. Poland and India residents at €79 for Gold have the clearest no-brainer on the board.
Should skip it: anyone who already holds SkyTeam status — Delta Medallion members and Flying Blue elites cannot use this to extend what they have, and the match explicitly cannot renew a tier you already hold. Skip it too if you have no international SkyTeam flying planned in the next year or two; status you never touch is €199 wasted regardless of the discount. And do not buy it as a shortcut to lifetime status or as a way to gift status to a travel companion — both are explicitly excluded for matched members.
Awardtrail analysis
The verdict is simple: buy Gold for €199, never Diamond — unless your calendar is full of SAS-operated flights, in which case do the arithmetic on the 30%-off award trips before you decide. If the tier table says you qualify for Diamond, exercise the option to take Gold instead and pocket the €150.
A few operational notes before you apply. First, if you do not already have a EuroBonus account, create one first — a brand-new account stretches the matched status to roughly 24 months instead of ~12, and membership is free. Second, because there is no published end date and the offer closes when the quota fills, "apply when it is convenient" is a riskier posture than usual; if you have qualifying status and upcoming SkyTeam travel, apply now. Third, the fee is only charged on approval, so there is no financial downside to submitting the application — the worst outcome is a polite rejection email. Finally, check the eligible-program list on the application page before you pay: it is SAS's own page, and the program list is the one piece of this offer that could change without notice.

Why This Matters for Your Strategy
News in the points-and-miles world moves fast, and promotional changes often have a short window. If this announcement affects a card or program you hold, log into your awardtrail dashboard to check your current benefit usage, bonus progress, and whether a transfer or redemption makes sense right now — before terms change.
As a general rule: transfer points only when you have a specific redemption in mind — transfers are almost always one-way and non-reversible. If you're unsure of the value, check our redemption guides before acting.
