Big news for those who love earning and burning miles: Hawaiian Airlines is officially joining the Oneworld alliance on April 22, 2026! This is huge because it means you'll be able to use your miles from other Oneworld airlines like American Airlines, British Airways, or Qantas, to book flights on Hawaiian. Imagine using those AAdvantage miles you've been hoarding to finally take that dream trip to Maui or Kauai!
This also works in reverse! You'll be able to credit your Hawaiian Airlines flights to any Oneworld program to earn miles. This opens up a ton of new possibilities for racking up points towards your favorite award redemptions. Oneworld status also comes with perks like priority check-in, lounge access, and extra baggage allowance when flying Hawaiian.
While 2026 seems far away, now's the time to start planning your strategy. Think about which Oneworld programs best fit your travel goals and how you can maximize your earnings on Hawaiian flights once they're officially part of the alliance. This addition makes your miles even more valuable and your future island getaways that much easier to achieve.
Why This Matters for Your Strategy
News in the points-and-miles world moves fast, and promotional changes often have a short window. If this announcement affects a card or program you hold, log into your awardtrail dashboard to check your current benefit usage, bonus progress, and whether a transfer or redemption makes sense right now — before terms change.
As a general rule: transfer points only when you have a specific redemption in mind — transfers are almost always one-way and non-reversible. If you're unsure of the value, check our redemption guides before acting.
