Sonesta Card Sunset: What Happens Next?
Published on December 5, 2025, 9:00 PM
Bank of America is pulling the plug on the Sonesta credit card, and here's what you need to know. The program officially ends on February 12, 2026, so you have some time, but it's still important to be aware of the changes. If you paid an annual fee between March and November 2025, you'll be getting a refund! And if your fee is due between December 2025 and February 2026, you won't be charged at all.
For those chasing the anniversary bonus (30,000 points after spending), there's a silver lining! The spending requirement has been reduced to $3,750, and you can still snag that bonus. The card will automatically convert to the Bank of America Unlimited Rewards card, which earns 1.5% cash back on all purchases. Your card number stays the same, so keep using your current card until the new one arrives.
This news might sting a little, especially if you grabbed the card for that massive 125,000-point bonus way back when, or were actively using the perks the Sonesta card offered. While not unexpected, considering new applications were halted earlier this year, it's always good to have a heads-up so you can plan your next hotel rewards strategy!
