$100 for Teens: City National Bank's New Checking Bonus Requires a Direct Deposit?!
Published on January 18, 2026, 9:27 PM
City National Bank has a new offer for a $100 bonus when you open a teen checking account! Sounds simple, right? Well, there's a catch: you need to set up a recurring direct deposit of at least $200. While it's geared towards teens, it's really a joint account with the parents, who they expect will deposit the money. Why should you care? If you're a parent in WV, VA, KY, or OH, this could be an easy way to snag an extra $100. It's a soft pull (meaning it won't affect your credit score), and there are no monthly fees. Just make sure you keep the account open for at least 180 days, or you'll get hit with a $25 early termination fee. It also requires ChexSystems, which tracks your banking history - but is apparently not very sensitive. It's an unusual requirement for a teen account, but a potentially easy win for those who can swing the direct deposit! Remember, the bonus is taxable, so factor that in.
