Webull Beefs Up Brokerage Bonus: Is 4% Worth the 5-Year Wait?

Webull is back with a tempting offer for those looking to move their brokerage accounts! They're giving a bonus of up to 4% for transferring assets to their platform, specifically through something called an ACATS transfer (basically a direct transfer between brokerages). The catch? You need to transfer at least $100,000 to get the 4% and the bonus is paid out in installments over five years. Balances between $2,000 and $99,999 only get a 3% bonus.
This matters to you, the awardtrail reader, because it's essentially free money! But, as always, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, you have to keep the funds in the account for the entire five-year period to get the full bonus. Pulling out early could reduce or eliminate future payouts. Also, this bonus is considered income and you'll have to pay taxes on it. Webull also isn't known for handling "cost basis" very well when transferring, meaning you will want to keep an eye on that.
Finally, while a 4% bonus is juicy, Robinhood is offering a similar 2% match on a 5 year hold, but you receive the full bonus immediately. With Webull, a percentage of the bonus is paid out each year, and you get more of the bonus if you leave your funds untouched for longer. Webull will reimburse up to $100 in transfer fees, and they are insured up to $500,000. So, if you've got a large brokerage account sitting around, this could be a solid way to earn a little extra return, just be prepared for the long haul!
