Bilt Card Shakeup: Free Rent Payments May Be a Thing of the Past!
Published on January 7, 2026, 9:20 PM
Heads up, Bilt Rewards fans! A rumor is circulating (originating on Reddit) about some major changes coming to the Bilt credit cards, and it could impact how you earn rewards and pay rent. The big news? The free rent/mortgage payment perk might be going away. Instead, Bilt is supposedly introducing "Bilt Cash," which can be used to cover the 3% fees usually charged for rent payments. You'll earn Bilt Cash as a signup bonus and, more importantly, as a percentage of your regular spending on the card. So, how does this affect you? If you're relying on the current Bilt card to pay rent without fees, you'll now need to spend a significant amount on the card to earn enough Bilt Cash to offset those fees. The rumored cards also come with different annual fees, bonus categories, and perks like hotel credits, so it's worth evaluating whether the new offerings still align with your spending habits and travel goals. Depending on your spending habits, you may want to ignore the rent payment aspect entirely and see if the cards make sense for you otherwise. The cards may make sense depending on how much you value Bilt points. There will supposedly be 3 cards: Blue ($0 annual fee), Obsidian ($95 annual fee) and Palladium ($495 annual fee). Each card offers different perks and multipliers, so depending on your spending, one of these cards may make sense as your go to card.
