Heads up, Southwest flyers! You know how awesome the Companion Pass is – basically, a friend flies free with you (just pay taxes/fees). Well, Southwest is making it a little easier to earn that coveted pass, and that's HUGE news for budget travelers.
For the fourth quarter, Southwest Rapid Rewards credit cardholders can earn double Companion Pass qualifying points on certain spending categories. This means your everyday spending can get you closer to unlocking that "buy one, get one free" travel perk. Check your account or the Southwest website to see which categories are offering the bonus this quarter (it varies!).
Why should you care? Because the Companion Pass is a game-changer if you frequently travel with a plus-one. Earning it faster means more trips, more savings, and more travel memories. Time to strategically use those credit cards!
Why This Matters for Your Strategy
News in the points-and-miles world moves fast, and promotional changes often have a short window. If this announcement affects a card or program you hold, log into your awardtrail dashboard to check your current benefit usage, bonus progress, and whether a transfer or redemption makes sense right now — before terms change.
As a general rule: transfer points only when you have a specific redemption in mind — transfers are almost always one-way and non-reversible. If you're unsure of the value, check our redemption guides before acting.
