Heads up, Aeroplan 25K and 35K members! Air Canada is tweaking its free checked bag policy starting February 1, 2026, and it's a bit of a mixed bag. Some of you might be celebrating, while others...not so much. If you hold higher status (50K and above) this will not affect you. So, what's changing? Well, some routes are getting *more* generous. But on other routes, these status holders will lose their free bag benefit. It really depends on where you're flying within Canada and to/from the US. The specifics are still a bit vague, so we suggest you check directly with Air Canada closer to the time. Why does this matter? Nobody wants to be hit with unexpected baggage fees! Knowing about these changes well in advance lets you plan accordingly. Maybe it's time to pack lighter, consider shipping some items ahead, or even strategize your Aeroplan status to see if reaching a higher tier to keep that baggage allowance might be worth it.
