Heads up, United MileagePlus members! From September 29th to October 6th, 2025, you can score an easy 500 bonus miles just by doing your regular online shopping through the United MileagePlus shopping portal. All you have to do is spend $150 or more cumulatively during that week. Think of it as free miles for stuff you were probably going to buy anyway!
Now, a couple of quick caveats. Things like returns, gift cards, shipping, and taxes don't count toward that $150 threshold. Also, give it up to 10 weeks for those bonus miles to show up in your account.
Before you jump in, always compare the earning rates on different shopping portals (like Rakuten or TopCashback) to make sure you're getting the best deal. Sometimes another portal might offer a higher rate that outweighs the 500-mile bonus. Happy shopping and happy flying!
Why This Matters for Your Strategy
News in the points-and-miles world moves fast, and promotional changes often have a short window. If this announcement affects a card or program you hold, log into your awardtrail dashboard to check your current benefit usage, bonus progress, and whether a transfer or redemption makes sense right now — before terms change.
As a general rule: transfer points only when you have a specific redemption in mind — transfers are almost always one-way and non-reversible. If you're unsure of the value, check our redemption guides before acting.
