Kraken, the crypto exchange, is running a promo where they'll match your deposits (both cash and crypto) made in October 2025 by 1-2%, possibly even up to 2.5%! But here's the catch: you gotta keep the funds there for a whole year, until November 1, 2026. The match rate bumps up depending on how much everyone deposits in total, so it's a community effort to hit those higher tiers. You need to deposit at least $1,000 and opt-in to the promo to participate. For Kraken+ members there is also an offer for an extra .5% deposit match.

Now, the big question: is it worth it? The Doctor of Credit (DoC) folks rightly point out that cash deposits at Kraken aren't FDIC insured, so there's a risk there. However, it looks like you can deposit cash and then buy stocks/ETFs which would be SIPC insured, and so the risk would only be for a few days until the stocks/ETFs are purchased. If you're already holding crypto, this could be more appealing as you could transfer your crypto over. Just make sure you're comfortable with Kraken as your wallet, and do your own research!

So, bottom line: this could be a decent boost, especially if you're transferring crypto anyway, but carefully consider the risks and do your homework before jumping in. This promo is all about risk assessment and making informed decisions for your personal financial situation.

Why This Matters for Your Strategy

News in the points-and-miles world moves fast, and promotional changes often have a short window. If this announcement affects a card or program you hold, log into your awardtrail dashboard to check your current benefit usage, bonus progress, and whether a transfer or redemption makes sense right now — before terms change.

As a general rule: transfer points only when you have a specific redemption in mind — transfers are almost always one-way and non-reversible. If you're unsure of the value, check our redemption guides before acting.
