Unlock VIP Treatment: Is Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts Worth It?

Okay, so you've got an Amex Platinum or Centurion card? Then you NEED to know about Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts (FHR). It's basically a curated collection of over 1,600 luxury hotels worldwide where you get treated like royalty. Think free breakfast, guaranteed 4 PM late check-out, room upgrades when available, and usually some kind of on-property credit (like $100 to spend on food or at the spa).
Why should you care? Well, even if you don't have hotel elite status, FHR can get you similar perks. This is super valuable if you don't travel enough to earn status the traditional way, or if you're staying at a hotel where your existing status doesn't get you much anyway. Plus, sometimes the included perks and credits can actually make booking through FHR cheaper than booking directly, especially if you were planning to splurge on breakfast or a massage anyway.
But, and there's always a but, FHR isn't always the best deal. You'll want to compare the FHR rate with other rates, including direct booking, other online travel agencies, and especially Amex's own "The Hotel Collection" (another program, requiring only a basic Amex card). The Hotel Collection is often cheaper, but with slightly less valuable perks. Ultimately, it's all about doing a little homework to see if the FHR perks outweigh the cost for your specific stay!
