Key retailers like Walmart and Safeway have vanished and reappeared as redemption options more times than we can count! It seems that Capital One giveth and Capital One taketh away. More recently, we're seeing tons of options becoming available such as Best Buy, Verizon, Walmart, Safeway, Home Depot, Instacart, and eBay. Selection seems to vary by user, though, so you'll have to log in and see what you've got. Why should you care? Well, if you're like many people who used the portal to essentially "cash out" your rewards by buying gift cards to places you frequent (like Walmart or Home Depot), this volatility is a major pain. It means you have to keep a close eye on what's available and be ready to redeem quickly if your favorite option pops up. If you're willing to sell gift cards, you can still get around 75% of the value from less desirable options. Also, check your Capital One Offers within your bank login, as they often have similar (or better) deals that you can redeem for statement credits.
