United Airlines Set to Launch MileagePlus Debit Card: Is it Worth It?
Published on October 29, 2025, 10:04 PM
Heads up, United flyers! Word on the street (from a usually reliable source) is that United Airlines is gearing up to launch its own debit card, the United MileagePlus® Debit Rewards card, in partnership with Sunrise Bank. Think of it like the Southwest and Wyndham debit cards that are already out there. You'll earn miles for your spending, but instead of using a credit card, the money comes straight from your bank account. So, what's the deal? The card will likely have a signup bonus around 2,500 miles (like the Southwest and Wyndham cards), and you'll earn 1 mile for every $2 spent on regular purchases and 1 mile for every $1 spent directly with United. There's also an annual bonus of 2,500 miles after you spend $10,000. But the really interesting part is the potential to earn up to 70,000 miles *each year* based on your average account balance. We don't have specifics yet, but this could be a big win if you tend to keep a chunk of change in your checking account. There's a $4 monthly fee, but you can avoid it by keeping an average monthly balance of $2,000. That's cheaper and a lower balance requirement than the Southwest and Wyndham debit cards. While it's FDIC-insured, and we don't know all the perks yet, the big question is: can you have *both* this United debit card *and* the Southwest/Wyndham ones? Ultimately, whether this card is worth it for you will depend on your spending habits, how much you keep in your checking account, and whether you find value in the potential bonus miles. We'll keep you posted as we learn more!
